Working on some simple but delectable little treats for tomorrows special event……
Chocolate and Lemon Bonbons are in the making and they are so easy to make, have to confess that they actually go by the name of Oreo Cookie balls but I think it sounds a lot posher to call them Bonbons!
The basic recipe for the chocolate ones is one that you can find anywhere which is show below, for the lemon ones I used Lemon cookies and some lemon zest and dipped the in white chocolate instead.
- 8oz of Philadelphia cream cheese
- 1 pack of original Oreo cookies (36 cookies and you need them all so no stealing)!
- semi sweet chocolate chips melted
Put the cookies in a food processor and pulse away until they are well crumbled.
Mix the cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
Make 1 inch balls and place in freezer for 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer waxed paper-lined pan or cookie sheet and refrigerate for apron 1 hr or until firm.
Now that was pretty simple wasn’t it?
Here comes the twist, there are tons of flavors, combinations, shapes and decorations that can be applied to the same recipe. Add a drizzle of your favorite liquor into the melted chocolate, or use different flavored cookies.
Do you like ginger? Use ginger snaps, add some chopped candied ginger and coat in white chocolate! Let your imagination fly and experiment with flavors, you will be surprised on how simple and wonderful they are!
And remember the holidays are just around the corner, so start practising!
